Chemistry 282- Introduction to Analytical Chemistry

Course Description:

This lecture and lab course focuses on all aspects of measurement, including data collection, methods of calibration, data interpretation, and error analysis. A variety of analytical techniques are used, including classical methods such as titration and gravimetry, and instructional methods, including UV-visible spectrosocpy, gas chromatography, and flame photometry. The Honors section typically includes at least one experiment based on individual student interest that requires some "trial and error" to find the best set of conditions for the analysis. Past projects have included the analysis of iron and other metals in well water from several sites in southeast Michigan, the determination of rivoflavin in vitamin tablets and other food products, and many others.
