Professional Development Tips

To continually acquire work-related skills and abilities, we suggest following the 70-20-10 model for learning and development:

  • 70% on-the-job experiences
Seek out and take on more demanding work assignments. This may include volunteering for more challenging projects or making recommendations for process improvements within your department.
  • 20% feedback
Don’t let your annual performance review be the only time you seek out and receive feedback. Regularly pursue informal feedback from your colleagues and supervisor about your strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge can help you decide where to focus your professional development efforts.
  • 10% formal training
Throughout the year, the Learning and Organizational Development team offers workshops designed to enhance employee skills. Check out our eTraining page for a list of online courses.
