Service Description

Service Name: Email Security 
Service Name Synonyms: Email Security, Ironport, spam filter

DoIT provides Email security via the Ironport appliance to protect EagleMail (Zimbra) accounts from receiving and sending unwanted spam by comparing mail senders with a dynamic database of sender reputation.


This service is integrated into all accounts in the EagleMail system.

Availability: 24/7/365, except planned maintenance windows.

All EagleMail messages are processed through e-mail security.


Users with a specific business need for the University may request to be whitelisted to be exempted from the filtering process. 

Restrictions: IronPort does not affect traffic when the sender and recipient are both within the EagleMail system.
Support: Submit whitelisting requests or other questions to the IT Help Desk at 734-487-2120 or it.helpdesk@emich.edu. Support is provided during the service hours of the IT Help Desk.

Requisition and Approval Process:

No special provisioning is required to use IronPort. It is automatic in the EagleMail system.


Whitelisting of accounts may be requested by contacting the IT Help Desk with the originating IP address(es) to be whitelisted.

Costs and Limitations: Neither departments nor individuals are charged for normal usage.
