What's New in BOE 4.0

On July 8 the BOE reporting system was upgraded to version 4.0. This upgrade brings a cleaner interface along with some additional features. The entire security access structure has been revamped which will help provide better performance and easier maintenance.

Below you will find a list of tips to help use the updated system:

  • Login - you will continue to log in using your My.Emich credentials. If you have problems with access, contact the I.T. Help Desk at 734.487.2120.
  • Browser - The latest version of Firefox continues to be the preferred browser for BOE.
  • Printing - You may need to reset your print settings in the new BOE. Use the BOE Print Settings information to set your account to print.

Category View

Once you log in, the default view continues to be the Category view. The two main categories are Finance Operations and Student Information.

BOE Categories

The Finance Operations category has not changed from the old system. The Student Information category has changed, it now contains the following sub-categories:

  • Admissions - Reports used to process admissions applicants
  • Course & Section Reports - Section Enrollment report and other tools for department schedulers
  • Student Data Reports - Majors reports and other information on individual students

Report Listings

The report listings interface has been streamlined. You need to right-click on a report title to view a list of options for that report. Click on the View option to run a View on Demand report (VOD).


Running a Report

There are a few differences in running reports in the new BOE, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the report listing to view a list of options. Select the View option to run a VOD report.
  2. Fill out parameters as you did before.
  3. Click the OK button at the bottom of the parameter screen.
  4. A status indicator appears in the center of the window showing that the query is running. BOE Status
  1. Once the data has been retrieved, you can use the BOE toolbar to navigate the report. The toolbar has been streamlined in the new version, the Next Page and Previous Page buttons are labeled below. You can also simply scroll to navigate the report pages.


PC users will need to change the following setting to be able to print from the new version of BOE. On a Mac, these steps are unnecessary. PC users follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Preferences link in the upper right-hand corner of the interface.
  2. Click on the Crystal Reports link in the left-hand navigation column.
  3. In the second setting of the list (select printing control for Web,) click on the radio button next to PDF one-click printing.

  4. Click the Save and Close button in the lower right-hand corner. You will now be able to print just as you did previously.

Exporting to Excel

When exporting data to Excel, there are now additional choices in the Export Report pull-down menu. We  recommend using the Microsoft Excel 97-2003 - Data Only (XLS) selection.

New Features

  • Multiple Tabs - when you open a report, it opens in a separate tab. This allows you to open multiple reports at one time. 
  • Pin a Report to a Tab - when you click the Pin icon, that tab will automatically open the next time you log in to BOE. You will still have to fill in the parameters and run the report, but the report will already be open each time you log in. 
  • Parameter Lists - when a parameter list exceeds 200 items, the list is divided into sections. You can navigate between the sections using the pull-down menu, or the right and left-arrow buttons.
