SSADETL - Linking Sections with the Link Connector and Link Attribute Codes

Note: The information on this page applies to INB Banner, version 8. The content is no longer updated, but may still be useful as a general reference for later versions of Banner.

Use the Schedule Detail form (SSADETL) to link sections. Linking is the Banner mechanism used to connect lecture, lab, and/or recitation sections which must be registered for concurrently. Creating linked sections forces the student to register for more than one section of the same course.

Note: Only sections with the same term, subject, and course numbers can be linked. An example might be a fall 2010 BIOL 105 lecture section linked to one or more fall 2010 BIOL 105 lab sections.

Follow these directions to link sections in SSADETL:

  1. From the Banner Main menu, type the form name in the Go To... box press the [Enter] key on the keyboard.
    Go To...
  2. The form is displayed. Type the term code in the Term field.

Note: To search for a term code, click the Term field pull-down arrow. A list of term codes are displayed. Locate and double-click the code to return to the form and display it in the Term field. See Glossary of Banner Codes and Fields for more information about term codes.
  3. Type the course reference number in the CRN field.

Note: If you originally clicked the Search button in the Section form (SSASECT) the Term and CRN fields will already be populated.
  4. Click the Next Block button on the toolbar.
    Next Block Button
  5. The Section Links and Corequisites block is displayed. Type one or more link connector codes in the Link Connector column.

Note: The Link Connector column references the Link Identifier of any sections that are linked to the current section you are working with. If you are linking a lecture section and a lab section, the link identifier code of the lecture section will be the link connector code for the lab section and visa/versa. For example, if the current lecture section's Link Identifier code is L1 and you want to link it to a lab section with a Link Identifier code B1, then the Link Connector field will contain B1. See Linking Sections for more information.

  6. Click the Degree Program Attributes tab.
  7. Click the Degree Program Attributes tab. The Degree Program Attributes block is displayed.
  8. Type LK followed by the Link Identifier code for the section you are working with, in the Attribute field.
  9. Click the Save button on the toolbar.
    Save Button
  10. When you are finished, click the Exit button on the toolbar to return to the Banner Main menu.
