Vitru is a leading email and file encryption application designed to protect sensitive information, and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

What are the benefits of using Virtru?

With Virtru, you’re able to send and read encrypted messages and attachments without ever leaving your inbox—and without your recipients downloading any software or creating a password. In addition to its ease of use, it will also allow the university to:

  1. Meet compliance requirements and avoid potential penalties.
  2. Reduce the risk of data breaches.
  3. Have the freedom to collaborate with confidence and productively share data in the cloud.
  4. Maintain control of our data, and see who’s accessing and interacting with it.

How do I get Virtru?

Visit the Virtru website to download the plug-in for your browser.  Once the plug-in is downloaded you must activate Virtru.

Note: I.T. recommends using Chrome for the best user experience. 

How do I use Virtru? 

  1. Send a Virtru-Encrypted Email in Gmail.
  2. Disable forwarding of Virtru encrypted messages/files.
  3. Set an expiration date for Virtru encrypted messages/files.
  4. Watermark virtru encrypted files.
  5. Enable persistent file protection (PFP) in Virtru encrypted messages/files.
  6. Install the Virtru Mobile App for iOS or Android.

Note:  Virtru is not recommended for sending encrypted messages to email lists.  I.T. recommends sending encrypted messages to individual email addresses rather than to email lists.
