Student Masters of Ceremonies

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Planning Committee has selected two students to serve as the 2020 MLK President’s Luncheon Masters of Ceremonies. The selected students will serve as the official hosts for one of EMU’s most recognized events. They will emcee before an audience of over 500 students, faculty, staff and community members, while enjoying lunch as the guest of President James M. Smith.

The 2020 MLK President's Luncheon Masters of Ceremony are:

Deja Hood and Xavier Cheatum

Deja Hood is a graduating senior at Eastern Michigan University majoring in Dance and minoring in Management. Currently, she is the Vice President of Dance Forum and works as a Peer Mentor for EMU TRIO SSS program. Additionally, she is an after-school teacher at the James and Grace Lee Boggs School where Deja teaches African dance. In March 2019, Deja received an EMU Gold Medallion for mentorship. She plans to apply these skills, along with leadership, in her future endeavors beyond college.

Xavier Cheatum is involved in several different organizations at Eastern including: being an active member of the Brotherhood Scholars, working as a third year Resident Advisor in the residence halls, serving on the Housing and Residence Life Advisory Board, and working as a supervisor at the Rec/IM Building. Additionally, Xavier is active in the Ypsilanti community as a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program, and he encourages the residents on his floor to have the same sense of civility and spirit of volunteerism.
