This session involves a screening and discussion to launch video 3 in the Creating a Culture of Belonging at EMU series. The Faculty Senate Committee for Action on Intersectionality, Antiracism, and Equity (CAIARE) invites students, staff, faculty, and the broader community to discuss actions small and large that we can take to make EMU a place that welcomes and supports diversity.

This presentation will cover the quantitative and qualitative analysis of an individual vote including the community impact and account of voting. We aim to focus on the way voting is not a monolith for communities of colour, and how obtaining the vote of a community is not synonymous with understanding community needs, further emphasizing the importance of mass civic participation.

Washtenaw County Prosecutor and Dispute Resolution Center have created a voluntary survivor-centered restorative justice program. Survivors and would-be defendants work together to identify causes of harm and develop a plan to ensure that the harm will not reoccur. Many crime survivors and would-be defendants who participate in RJ are more satisfied and likely to complete restitution, increasing access to justice.

This study analyzed the relationship between academic and nonacademic determinants of academic achievement and persistence and to identify how university geographic location influences the likelihood of Black male persistence in college. Quantitative data was drawn from the U.S. Department of Education National Center for Educational Statistics to explore third-year academic achievement and persistence of Black males across the country.

Children and their families will have access to a prerecorded read-aloud focusing on diversity and justice with suggestions for family conversation. The story and conversation will be presented by various College of Education community members and will reflect its diversity. Encouragement to complete an artistic reflection of issues or causes they pledge to engage as citizens will also be provided.
