Nelson Amos, professor of guitar at Eastern Michigan University since 1975, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate classes in music history and advised numerous graduate students in writing theses and special projects in music. In addition, Dr. Amos has pursued an ongoing quest to promote classical guitar and lute music in higher education. The many excellent guitarists graduated from Eastern Michigan University attest to his success in this undertaking. As a classical guitarist and lutenist, Dr. Amos has performed extensively in the United States and Europe. He has published several articles and regularly lectures on the history of fretted instruments. In recent years he has performed with the Amoroso Guitar Quartet and regularly participates as a Baroque lutenist in the Summer Institutes offered by the Lute Society of America.
