The Eastern Michigan University Holiday Candlelight Concert is a collaboration of students, faculty, and community members creating the most beautiful collection of music you’ll hear during the holiday season. For many people, the celebration of the season begins with the annual EMU Candlelight concerts.
The EMU Candlelight Concert will be Eastern Michigan University’s signature December Holiday concert event. It is a develop.m.ent event for the choral department, and although the concert literature will change each year, the brand name “Candlelight Concert” will stay the same.
We are excited to include faculty and student work from across the university to make this an interdisciplinary event while we reach out for community partners to get involved. The concert will have two performances each year. This year in Pease Auditorium, December 14 @ 7:30 and December 15 in Detroit’s Orchestra Hall @3:30. EMU has not had a strong enough artistic presence in the city of Detroit and this concert is a terrific vehicle for re-introducing our community to Detroit with a broad appeal, and a focus on musical excellence in Detroit’s premier concert hall.
While the EMU Choirs have many exciting concerts and outreach events each year, this project has the most potential and appeal to our general concert audiences. We will attract thousands over the next few years, some with deep connections to EMU but also we target those with no direct connections to EMU. This is the largest opportunity for us to impact our larger community outside of the typical “EMU Concert Enthusiast.” We are positioning this event as an outreach to thousands and fully envisioning this tradition to be a staple in the southeast MI community.
