Jason Ihnat is an active teacher, performer, composer and arranger. As a Part-Time Lecturer of Music Theory at Eastern Michigan University, his teaching responsibilities have included Aural Skill, Music Fundamentals and Music Theory. In addition, he has been the percussion arranger and instructor for the EMU Marching Band since 2001. As a performer, Mr. Ihnat performs frequently with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Philharmonic and Macomb Symphony Orchestra. As a composer/arranger, his compositions and arrangements have been performed at universities and high schools in Michigan and across the country. His Percussion Quartet No. 1 and Brass Quintet No. 1 were featured on the prestigious EMU Music Now Fest concert series in 2011 and 2013.
Jason has been on the percussion staff with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from Allentown, PA since 2004. He is the director and a performer with the Detroit Lions Drumline and serves as an Artist in Residence at Novi High School and Grosse Pointe South High School. Jason also teaches privately, conducts educational clinics and adjudicates at festivals and competitions throughout the country.
Mr. Ihnat received his Master of Music Degree in Music Composition from Eastern Michigan University where he studied with Dr. Anthony Iannaccone, and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, where he studied percussion with Keith Claeys.
