Current job: Claims Technical Expert at Social Security Administration
Major at EMU: Sociology with a minor in Nonprofit Administration
The NLA helped to formalize and give insight into the elements and unique qualities of working within the nonprofit sector. I ended up working in the nonprofit sector after graduation, and the Certified Nonprofit Professional credential helped separate me from some of the other candidates. Though I am not in the nonprofit sector now, I work in Government, and some of the qualities are the same.
What advice do you have for NLA students as they graduate from EMU?
Cast your net far and wide.
What key points should anyone considering a career in the nonprofit field know?
It is just as competitive as other sectors. You have to seek out a diverse set of experiences in order to stand apart from other candidates.
