YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) is hosting their annual nonprofit conference on Monday, April 11 from 8:00am-2:30pm in the EMU Student Center. The theme this year is Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in Nonprofits. The purpose of this conference is to create a dialogue on equity, diversity and inclusion between nonprofit leaders and students preparing to work in this sector. The topic will be addressed both in nonprofit services provided to the community and within the culture of nonprofit organizations.
Luncheon keynote speaker Teresa Gillotti will be discussing the Washtenaw County Opportunity Index. The Index utilizes recent data in 5 categories to break the county into areas showing where the average person has more overall opportunity. Categories include: education, job access, health, economic vitality, and neighborhood stability. The index shows stark disparities of opportunity and inequity in certain zip codes in Washtenaw County.
Panel discussions and breakout workshops will be using the “equity lens” to discuss ways that nonprofit organizations make decisions that affect their local community. Many area nonprofits work toward addressing inequity through their programs and services. The conference will feature nonprofit professionals in the areas of healthcare, youth programming, board development, cross cultural communication, and arts and culture.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by visiting www.emich.edu/nonprofit. The conference includes a continental breakfast and lunch. LBC approved for EMU students. Open to the public.
Conference sponsor: United Way of Washtenaw County.
Supporting sponsors: Booth Learning, Camp Fire Southeast Michigan, EMU Equality Research Center, EMU Center for Advancing Social Enterprise (CASE), NEW: Solutions for Nonprofits, and Washtenaw County Office of Community & Economic Development.
