Every winter semester, NLA hosts a career development conference for EMU students as well as the broader community. The conference provides an opportunity for students and community members to learn about a particular topic in the nonprofit sector, and it allows students to network with local nonprofit professionals. 2018 Conference date TBA.
The 2017 conference was presented by the EMU Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and NEW: Solutions for Nonprofits. "Nonprofit Board Training" was the theme, and the purpose of the conference was to prepare DIVERSE nonprofit leaders, build EQUITABLE strategies to serve the nonprofit sector, and foster INCLUSIVE organizations by design. Sessions included: Nonprofit 101, Duties of the Nonprofit Board Member, Understanding Nonprofit Financials, Effective Planning, Legal & Ethical Integrity, and Designing Strategies for an Inclusive Board Culture.
The 2016 conference was themed "Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion in Nonprofits". The purpose of this conference was to create a dialogue on equity, diversity and inclusion between nonprofit leaders and students preparing to work in this sector. Sessions included: Equity in Youth Services, Equity in Healthcare, Equity in Washtenaw County, Being Color Brave, Developing an Intentional Organizational Culture, and a Cultural Humility Workshop.
