June 2025 - Travel Restrictions on Certain Foreign Nationals  

On June 4th, 2025, the Trump Administration released a new set of travel restrictions on foreign nationals from 19 countries.

Full Travel Restrictions:

  1. Afghanistan 
  2. Burma
  3. Chad
  4. Republic of the Congo 
  5. Equatorial Guinea 
  6. Eritrea 
  7. Haiti
  8. Iran 
  9. Libya
  10. Somalia
  11. Sudan
  12. Yemen 

Partial Travel Restrictions: 

  1. Burundi
  2. Cuba
  3. Laos
  4. Sierra Leone
  5. Togo
  6. Turkmenistan
  7. Venezuela

Students who are not from the countries listed above do not currently have any travel restrictions as of today's date. Students who are citizens of these countries have received separate communications regarding the travel restrictions.

April 2025 - Summer Travel Information

OISS encourages that all F-1/J-1 students use caution when considering traveling outside the U.S. For student's who are planning on traveling outside the U.S. this summer, OISS suggests students over-prepare in case of any issues at the border.
 
For currently enrolled students you should have the following documents:
  • An I-20/DS-2019 with a valid travel signature (valid for 12 months)
  • Valid passport that does not expire for at least 6 months into the future
  • Valid F-1/J-1 visa 
  • Proof of Enrollment (request via Service EMU)
  • Fall 2025 class schedule (via your my.emich account)
 
For those students who have completed their degree program and are on OPT/STEM:
  • An I-20 with a valid travel signature (valid for 6 months)
  • Valid passport that does not expire for at least 6 months into the future
  • Valid F-1 visa 
  • Valid EAD Card
  • Proof of Employment (Pay stubs, letter from employer, etc.)

OISS continues to monitor any changes to the F-1/J-1 visa regulations that may affect international students. We will do our best to pass on any relevant changes to those regulations or their implementation as soon as we are able. Student's should check their email regularly for any communications from OISS.


September 2024 - Travel Signatures/SSN 

Students can drop of their SSN Letter and Travel Signature requests outside advising drop-in hours. Advisors will review and process your request, student will receive an email when their documents are ready to pick up.
