Interests and Expertise

Professor Behringer joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy in Fall, 1995. Originally trained in the field of surface science, he has since developed an interest in optics, optical spectroscopy, the influence of plant form on fitness, energy issues and physics education. He works with Professor Sharma to develop the Modern Optics Lab and with Professor Goldman in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor campus) to study semiconductor heterostructures. He also works with Professor LoDuca (in the Department of Geography and Geology) on the evolution of dasyclads. He has worked with pre-service elementary education students to develop web pages on the use of children's books to motivate science lessons.
