Here you can find information regarding:

Timely Warnings/Community Safety Notices:

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department (DPS) is responsible for preparing and issuing Community Safety Notices and Timely Warnings on the main campus, and the College of Business. DPS Personnel will make the decision of whether to issue a Warning/Safety Notice or on a case-by-case basis considering the facts surrounding a crime, including factors such as the nature of the crime, the continuing danger to the campus community and the possible risk of compromising law enforcement efforts. Information for Warnings/Safety Notices may also come from other law enforcement agencies or other officers.  Warnings/Safety Notices will be issued to the campus community as soon as pertinent information about the crime is available.  Warnings/Safety Notices will be delivered by e-mail and will appear on the University Police Website.  A copy of the Eastern Michigan University Police Department policy on Timely Warnings can be found here.

Because a well-informed community is an asset to public safety, timely warnings and safety notices include as much information as possible about the incident and any suspects who are reported to be involved – including detailed descriptions of suspects as provided by the victim or witnesses. That may include a complete physical description of the suspects such as approximate age, race, height and body type, as well as any unique identifying characteristics such as an accent, a distinctive article of clothing, or a vehicle used in a crime.

The Annual Security Report:

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department prepares an Annual Security Report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. This report is prepared in cooperation with the Housing Office and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards Departments. Each entity provides updated information on their educational efforts and programs to comply with the Act.

Campus Security Authority:

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act final rule of November 1, 1999 designates certain members of the university community as Campus Security Authorities. This group includes but is not limited to: a dean of students who oversees student housing, a student center, or student extra-curricular activities; or a director of athletics, team coach, or a faculty adviser to a student group. The following are probably not campus security authorities: a single teaching faculty member (other than an adviser to a student group); or a physician in a campus health center or a counselor in a counseling center whose only responsibility is to provide care to students; or campus clerical staff.
