Services

Our highly trained and professional police department of more than 35 officers is on duty 24/7, 365 days a year.

As sworn officers, EMU police are empowered to investigate, arrest, or take other necessary action to address any criminal or civil infraction. EMU officers work closely with local and state agencies, including the City of Ypsilanti Police Department, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, and the Michigan State Police.

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department takes pride in its diversity and, as such, reflects the rich diversity of the University. Minorities make up 31 percent of the EMU police department and are included in command and patrol ranks. Women make up roughly 25 percent.

EMU police officers patrol by car, motorcycle, bicycle, and foot to maintain high profile, proactive and preventive public safety services. Those services include:

  • Responding to emergency calls
  • Investigating crimes
  • Enforcing criminal and vehicle codes
  • Investigating traffic collisions
  • Community policing
  • Managing security and safety for the many special events that occur on campus
