University Policy Statement

Eastern Michigan University recognizes excellence in service or vocation by awarding honorary degrees to deserving recipients.  The degrees are presented at commencements and other special university occasions.

University Practice

University practices for implementing this policy include:

  • The nomination and selection of candidates as specified by administrative procedures.
  • The approval of candidates rests with the Board of Regents.

Responsibility for Implementation

The Office of the President is responsible for implementation of this policy within the established procedures.

Scope of Policy Coverage

This policy applies to the selection of all honorary degree recipients.
