Careers That Matter
Opportunities in Early Childhood Education
The field of early childhood education is one of the most in-demand career choices in Michigan, around the country, and across the world. With our versatile undergraduate degrees, we prepare you for a variety of career options and choices of work locations and settings: in infant & toddler care, full-day child care, corporate facility child care, federally funded Head Start Programs, State of Michigan Great Start Readiness Programs, and those who complete the certification degree find positions in public, charter, and private preschool and K-5th grade classrooms.
You have a choice of two degree tracks: one leading to preschool-grade 5 teacher certification and one that leads to work with young children in non-school settings. The faculty you work with at EMU are internationally known leaders in early childhood education who also have had the practical day-to-day experiences needed to really understand the educational, personal, and developmental needs of young children. Thousands of students have received their early childhood bachelor’s degrees at EMU and have gone onto fulfilling, wonderful careers working with young children and their families.
Efficient and Flexible
You could finish either EMU early childhood degree in four years. You have some flexibility in moving between the certification degree and the non-certification degree, so that no matter in which you start you have options to switch. Eastern Michigan University's ECE program has developed articulation agreements with local community colleges for ease in transferring to Eastern.
Undergraduate tuition is the same affordable cost regardless of the state from which you come. The College of Education and the department of Teacher Education also offer many scholarships to our students in our program.
