The Psychology Department would like to welcome our new faculty members,

Dr. Tom Waltz and Dr. Catherine Peterson.



waltzThomas J. Waltz

Assistant Professor


Thomas J. Waltz received his B.S. in psychology (behavior analysis concentration) at Western Michigan University. His training at Temple University (Ph.D. 2004) focused on basic behavioral processes and his training at the University of Nevada, Reno (Ph.D. 2011) focused on the application of behavioral principles to diverse clinical populations. Prior to his appointment at EMU, he was a research fellow at the Center for Mental Healthcare Outcomes Research in the Veterans Health Administration where his research focused on the implementation of evidence-based mental healthcare. His research and teaching interests focus on understanding and influencing the behavioral processes underlying mental and behavioral health presentations and supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices.



petersonCatherine C. Peterson

Assistant Professor


Catherine C. Peterson earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The George Washington University in 2003 with an emphasis in child health psychology. She completed fellowship training in pediatric psychology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Case Western Reserve University/Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Prior to coming to EMU, she held faculty positions in departments of pediatrics and psychology at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on the psychological and neurocognitive outcomes of pediatric medical conditions, particularly childhood cancer survivors. Her teaching interests and clinical work as a licensed clinical psychologist focus on cognitive assessment.
