Marques Thomey was appointed to the Board of Regents by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in February of 2023 to an eight-year term that will expire in December 2030.
Born and raised in the rural northern Michigan community of Mio, Thomey came to Eastern Michigan University in 1996 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management Technology in 2000. He later received his Master of Science in Leadership from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2021.
A passionate alumnus, Thomey served on the Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2011 to 2017, and held several leadership positions including Parliamentarian, President-Elect, and President. He continues to give his time to EMU by guest lecturing for the GameAbove College of Engineering & Technology Aviation Program and College of Business.
Thomey serves as Director of Business Development and Real Estate for the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA). Thomey is responsible for coordinating and managing business deals, and real estate contracts at Detroit Metro (DTW) and Willow Run (YIP) airports, including public-private partnerships for developing both aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenue. Thomey began his career at Metro Airport in 1999 and since then, he has become a 22-year veteran in the disciplines of aviation, asset management, organizational development, process improvement and business development, and he is a Certified Member of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).
Thomey resides in the City of Plymouth and is an active member of his community where he has served as City Commissioner for three and a half years and volunteers for the American Red Cross as a blood donor where he has a lifetime donation of over 13 gallons. He is married to his wife of 14 years and has two young children.
Regent Thomey serves as Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee, and as Vice Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. In addition, he serves as a Audit Committtee member.
