Linking sections requires you to enter three (3) codes, for each of the sections you are linking together:

      • Multiple sections can have the same Link Identifier code.

        • L: Lecture
        • B: Lab
        • R: Recitation
      • The second character is a number (0-9) that groups or links all the desired sections together.

    Section

Section: A section is an instance of a course. Section information is found on SSASECT.

Changing/Modifying vs. Deleting vs. Canceling a Section:

    • Changing/Modifying: Before the class schedule has been made public, any section information can be changed/modified. Once students have enrolled in a section, you can change/modify the section instructor or enrollment maximum; however, you must cancel a section when the modification impacts the student such as campus, building, room, date or time changes.
    • Deleting: Before the class schedule has been made public, during the schedule setup phase, sections that will not be offered for the term should be deleted; however, once the schedule has been made public, sections must be cancelled instead of deleted. If a section is deleted from Banner (INB) after it has been imported into 25Live, it will need to be manually deleted from the scheduling system.
    • Canceling: You will not be able to cancel a section in which students have already registered. When canceling a section, the students must be manually dropped by Records and Registration. Students are not notified by Records and Registration when a section is cancelled; therefore, the academic department is responsible for contacting the students to notify them the section is cancelled and whether or not a new section is available.

    Section (Seq/Sect)

Section (Seq/Sect): This number helps identify an instance (section) of a course. The Section field is found on SSASECT.

    Section number syntax:

    • Section numbers should not be duplicated within the same course. Duplicate number will make it more difficult to locate and fix 25Live section errors and to search for room availability.
    • You can only copy the "0" section when creating new sections of a course, therefore you should always have one "0" section for every course. Once the section has been copied, section numbers should then be changed so you do not have duplicate "0" sections for a course in a term.

    Special Approval (Perm)

Special Approval (Perm): Students will be unable to register for a section requiring department permissions until they secure authorization from the proper academic department. Permission is granted on SFASRPO. The Special Approval field is found on SSASECT.

    • DP: Department Permission Required
    • EP: Extended Programs Permission Required

The most common status codes are Active (A) or Cancelled (C); however; there are several status codes available. Sections with an A are open to the general population, provided course restrictions and prerequisites requirements are met. If one of the less common codes (i.e., E, F, G, or H) are applied to a section, it will restrict student registration. The Status field is found on SSASECT.
