Winter Housing

Winter 2023 Only Housing Application

This application is for students who wish to move on campus for the winter 2023 semester.

EMU will continue to require students who live on campus to be fully vaccinated and to have received one booster shot. You must meet this requirement to move on campus for the winter semester. The University requires housing residents to be vaccinated because the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective in reducing the spread and health impact of COVID-19, which is particularly important in congregate housing settings where many people live in close proximity.  For more information about how to report your vaccine status, request an accommodation, or receive the COVID-19 vaccine, please visit our EMU Safe website.

Application Basics

A $150 non-refundable prepayment is required at the start of the application process. The prepayment cannot be waived nor charged to the student account.

The Winter Only 2023 Housing application will open at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022. The application will close on Wednesday, December 21, at 5 p.m.

If you miss this deadline, the application will reopen for select applicants in January 2023. You must contact [email protected] in January 2023 to discuss eligibility.

Students cannot access the housing application if they have a hold on their student account. Once holds are removed from a student's account, they take one business day to update in our system.

Students must be registered for winter classes in order to access the housing application. Undergraduate students must be registered for at least 7 credit hours and graduate student must be registered for a minimum or 6 credit hours. If you are an international student and need help with this matter, please reach out to us.

Housing Availability

Due to limited space on campus, new winter semester students will be placed into open bed spaces in partially filled suites across campus.

The majority of openings will be in double spaces in our residence halls and not all students who request a residence hall single will be assigned to a single space.

We will not be accepting any applications for singles in our apartment areas (Brown, Munson, Cornell Courts). If you are only interested in single rooms in these areas, please reach out to [email protected] to be placed on a application wait-list. If space is available, we will invite students to apply. Do not apply unless you are invited to do so.

If you are interested in a double space in our apartments areas, and are eligible for apartments, you will see double options to preference within the housing application. Make sure you review what a double space in the different apartment areas means, as it varies by location. In some areas, you will share a bedroom with another student, and others offer you a private bedroom.

To be eligible for any of our apartment options during the 2022–2023 academic year, students must reach the age of 20 by 12/31/2022 and have attempted at least 55 credit hours at the time of application.

Applicants have the ability to preference what building they would like to reside in, but there is no guarantee that space will be available in that area.

First-year students are only eligible for double spaces.

It is your responsibility to review our rates and provide preferences that fit into your budget.

If you have a medical need for a single, you must start the intake process with the DRC immediately. Given limited spaces, we may or may not be able to accommodate your needs. Please submit your LOA to [email protected] to no later than December 21 at 5 p.m. for priority placement.

Winter Only Move-In

Move in for new applicants will take place on Sunday, January 8.

Early move-in is not available and students must plan accordingly for this. We do not have temporary spaces or alternative accommodations for students to try to arrive early.

Meal Plans

Make sure to review the meal plan page prior to applying for housing.

A meal plan is required in all of our traditional residence halls and students are required to select a meal plan during the application process.

Assignments will be made when the University reopens in January 2023. Once assignments are finalized, assigned students will be notified via email. Move-in details will also be communicated at this time.
