Professor Orrange's current research interests are in theorizing the relationship between individuals and formal organizations in advanced modern society from the perspectives of Pragmatism/Symbolic-Interactionism and Weberianism, with a special emphasis on the problematic risk society. Prior to his arrival at EMU, he carried out postdoctoral training at Cornell University's Employment and Family Careers Institute. His early research focused on the career, family and leisure aspirations of law and business professionals. Prior to entering academia, he was an operations manager for a Fortune 500 company, and his undergraduate educational background was in the field of engineering-management. Whenever possible, Professor Orrange and his family enjoy visiting relatives in Girona, Spain; Ithaca, New York; and Austin, Texas.
