The Higher Learning Commission issues its accreditation report that urges the University to "review the [Strategic Plan] and begin setting levels of measurement, with time lines, to track the progress of each goal and objective."

2018

Mar.

The University begins developing the goals, process, timeline, and research materials to update the University's Strategic Plan (the "SPC 2.0" initiative)

Jul.

University administration finalizes the SPC 2.0 initiative, including modification of the four "Strategic Themes" to three "Strategic Priorities" and the creation of three work groups (one work group for each Strategic Priority)

Sept.

The University Executive Council approves the SPC 2.0 initiative

President James Smith announces the SPC 2.0 initiative to the campus community at his annual State of the University address

Provost Rhonda Longworth invites the Faculty Senate to appoint three members to the SPC 2.0 work groups (that number is later expanded to four to add a second faculty position on the Academics & Research work group)

Oct.

Chief of Staff Leigh Greden invites other University faculty, staff, students, and alumni to serve on the SPC 2.0 work groups.

Chief of Staff Leigh Greden provides an overview of the SPC 2.0 initiative to all University managers at the Administrative Professionals (AP) meeting.

President James Smith provides an overview of the SPC 2.0 initiative to the EMU Foundation Board of Trustees.

Nov.

In response to the invitation from Provost Rhonda Longworth on 9/17/18, the Faculty Senate appoints faculty members to the three work groups.

Dec.

The membership of the three work groups charged with updating the Strategic Plan goals & outcomes is finalized

2019

Feb.

The SPC 2.0 launch meeting occurs with all work group members.

The work groups begin meeting and soliciting feedback from campus.

Mar.

Work groups continue meeting, soliciting campus feedback, etc.

Apr.

Work groups continue meeting, soliciting campus feedback, etc.

Jun.

The work group developing proposed goals & outcomes for the Engage & Serve Strategic Priority present proposed concepts and solicit feedback at Administrative Professionals meeting.

The work group developing proposed goals & outcomes for the Academics & Research Strategic Priority present proposed concepts and solicit feedback at Administrative Professionals meeting

Sept.

The work group developing proposed goals & outcomes for the Student Success Strategic Priority present proposed concepts and solicit feedback at Administrative Professionals meeting.

The three work groups submit proposed goals & outcomes for their respective Strategic Priorities

Review and editing of work groups' proposed goals & outcomes is paused pending results of the University's Campus Climate Assessment.

The University's Campus Climate Assessment is completed and work resumes on the SPC 2.0 initiative.
