Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The My Life Values program provides an array of services to aid employees in addressing tobacco use.  Services are available to all employees and include online resources, materials, and an online health library. Services are free and confidential and can be accessed 24/7. Quit the Nic

The Quit the Nic program provides a range of services that will assist in acquiring self-management behaviors and coping skills over a 12-month intervention period. Program is available to employees enrolled in the EMU Blue Cross Blue Shield or Blue Care Network health plans. The program features include:

  • Welcome packet
  • Unlimited telephone access to a dedicated health coach
  • Digital health coaching program and online health education library
  • Personal plan for quitting
  • Quitting for Life booklet
  • Certificate of completion

To get started simply call “Quit the Nic” to begin your journey toward better health. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members should call 1.800.775.BLUE (or 1.800.775.2583). Blue Care Network members should call 1.800.811.1764.

  • During your first call, a nurse health coach will discuss your readiness to quit using tobacco.
  • In subsequent calls, the nurse health coach will guide you through a series of topics to help you through the quitting process as you overcome the urge to use tobacco.
  • Together, you’ll establish an action plan to gradually stop using tobacco and determine a final quit date.

Tobacco Cessation Aids

EMU's Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan or Blue Care Network benefits include coverage for tobacco-cessation aids at no cost to you.* Coverage includes generic drugs, select brand name drugs and over-the-counter nicotine replacement products such as gum, patches or lozenges. A valid prescription is required. Limitations may apply. For specific information about your prescription drug benefits, call the number on the back of your Blues ID card.

* Members must meet step-therapy criteria to be eligible for no copayment for Chantix®, Nicotrol® and Nicotrol NS®

Community Behavioral Health Clinic

Eastern Michigan University has adopted a tobacco-free policy that supports a healthy learning, living and work environment for all members of the campus community.

The policy, effective July 1, 2015, prohibits all smoking and the use of tobacco products in or on all university owned, operated or leased buildings, facilities and grounds, including vehicles.
