YPSILANTI—The Dr. John A. Weeks Scholarship Golf Outing, held Sept. 11 at Eastern Michigan University’s Eagle Crest Golf Course, raised more than $40,000. The proceeds will benefit construction management students at EMU.
The annual event, hosted by the EMU Construction Management Alumni Chapter, supports the Dr. John A. Weeks Scholarship, named in honor of the founder of EMU’s construction management program. The scholarship enables outstanding students to receive a first-class construction management education at Eastern Michigan. For more than 20 years, the construction program has been a reliable resource for the growing local construction industry’s needs. EMU alumni are “building” Michigan’s future.
Deb Williams, chair of this year’s golf committee, was pleased with the response and support by sponsors and volunteers.
“Through the hard work of a dedicated committee, efforts that were above and beyond from the EMU Foundation and incredible support from our sponsors, we are very pleased with the success of this year’s outing,” Williams said. “There were countless hours of work put in by many folks and it is very rewarding to know the efforts of the team will benefit the careers of EMU construction students.”
Leading up the fundraising efforts was the tournament’s main sponsor, Mechanical Industry Labor Management Fund, which contributed $4,000.
Other sponsors included Brand Energy Services, Granger Construction Company, Ideal Contracting, ITC Holdings Corp., L & W- Great Lakes Gypsum, LaSalle Group, Inc., Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, Next Generation Environmental, Inc., O'Neal Construction, SHW Group, The Christman Company, Eastern Michigan University Foundation, EMU College of Technology Dean's Office, John E. Green Co., R.L. Deppmann Co., Woods Construction, Inc., Barrett Paving Materials, MICCO Construction, Tri-County Electric, Wiltec Technologies, Inc., Spence Brothers, Fingerle Lumber Co., A.F. Smith Electric, Inc., Acoustic Ceiling & Partition, Commercial Building Materials, Scaffolding, Inc. and Susan Weeks & Family.
With this year’s sold out scramble, the EMU Construction Management Alumni Chapter has raised more than $240,000 to support the scholarship over the last 17 years.
