Supportive Schools for English Learners

This free, twice-yearly workshop will assist principals and other staff such as counselors, social workers, psychologists, etc. in supporting ELs as well as teachers’ implementation of practices studied in the professional development initiative. 

The Family Writing Workshop

Ten schools each year will host this four-session series that brings children and their families together to share their stories, culminating in a published book for participants. Childcare will be provided for young siblings. Schools with teachers participating in the Professional Development Initiative are eligible to apply for this opportunity.

English Learner After-School Literacy Program at Estabrook Elementary

EMU preservice teachers will assist Ypsilanti teachers in conducting after-school programs that enhance literacy for English learners.

ESL Community Courses

EMU preservice teachers will serve as tutors for children and adult English learners in the community.
