INTERNATIONAL TALENT AND FASHION SHOW - COLORS IN HARMONY: EMU's International Student Association presents the 15th Annual Cultural Talent and Fashion Show called Colors in Harmony. Colors in Harmony has been celebrated since 1999 at EMU and this year it is going to be on Saturday, Mar. 15, at 6 p.m., in the Student Center Auditorium. There will be more than 15 performances from diverse cultures and countries and the event will conclude with an exceptional cultural fashion show. Tickets are on sale at EMU Tickets office: $7 for students & $9 for non-students. Get your tickets, before they get sold out! GRADUATE SCHOOL FOCUS GROUP: Graduate students - share your EMU graduate experience by participating in Graduate School 20/20, an on-campus focus group event, that will help better identify and improve the services of the Graduate School. It is crucial to collect active student feedback and insight. Focus Groups will be conducted at the following locations, dates and times:

  • College of Arts & Sciences: Monday, Mar. 17, 4 - 5 p.m., room 618, Pray-Harrold
  • College of Business: Tuesday, Mar. 18, 5 - 6 p.m., room 318, COB
  • College of Technology: Mar. 24, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., room TBA

MEET AND GREET NEW MEMBERS OF THE LEADERSHIP TEAM: Please join the Office of the President for a meet and greet on Tuesday, Mar. 18, 3 - 4 p.m., in room 300 in the Student Center to introduce and welcome the following members of the University Leadership Team:

PORTER CHAIR SPEAKER SERIES PRESENTS DOUGLAS FUCHS: EMU College of Education Porter Chair Speaker Series presents Douglas Fuchs on Tuesday, Mar. 18, 7 – 8:30 p.m., in room 100 in Porter. Fuchs will speak about “A Multi-Site Multi-Year Longitudinal Study of Bringing An Evidence-Based Educational Practice to Scale.”

Fuchs received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in educational psychology with an emphasis in special education and school psychology. He currently holds the Nicholas Hobbs Endowed Chair in Special Education and Human Development at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, where he is also co-director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Reading Clinic. CAMPUS LIFE EXCURSION TO SEE THE DETROIT PISTONS PLAY AGAINST THE MIAMI HEAT: Join EMU's Campus Life at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday, Mar. 28, at 7:30 p.m. to see the Detroit Pistons take on The Miami Heat. The cost for this excursion is $30 for EMU students and $60 for the general public. This cost includes transportation and admission. Tickets can be purchased at all EMU Ticket Offices. Tickets go fast so please don’t miss out. Attendees should meet at the 2nd floor information desk in the Student Center for departure at 5:30 p.m. The return time to campus is approximately 11 p.m. Each ticket holder's complete participation is required when they purchase a ticket to an Eastern Excursion. This requires the ticket holder to ride the  transportation and attend the event with the entire group.  When you have your ticket you MUST complete the online form at campuslife.emich.edu/events/excursions. To purchase tickets, call or visit the EMU Ticket Office at 487-2282.

* HOLLY SMITH RETIREMENT RECEPTION: Please join us to celebrate the retirement of Holly Smith. Holly has worked for EMU for 37 years. The President’s Office will host a reception in recognition of her dedicated service on Monday, Mar. 31, 3 - 5:30 p.m., in room 300 in the Student Center. DONATE YOUR PONYTAIL AND HELP WOMEN WITH CANCER: The campus community is invited to make the kindest gift of all at a hair cutting event hosted by EMU's American Marketing Association. Please consider donating your ponytail to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths to help support a woman during the greatest fight of her life. The event will take place on Monday, Mar. 31, 4 p.m., in room 330 in the Student Center. All qualifying donations will be transformed into free, high-quality wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment. Who knew a haircut could mean so much? The first 50 participants to RSVP will get a sample bottle of the product that inspired the entire event. Please send a message to Amanda at awaggamo@emich.edu with your name and email address if you would like to participate.

Please note that to make the most durable, beautiful wigs possible, donated hair must be a minimum of eight inches in length and have no more than a few strands of gray. Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses or semi-permanent dyes, but cannot have been bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated. If you can’t or choose not to donate, please join us in a show of support for donors or make a donation to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund in their honor at www.beautifullengths.com.

 

EASTERN MICHIGAN WRITING PROJECT: Eastern Michigan Writing Project (EMWP) is pleased to announce Inkstains, a summer writing camp for middle and high school students on the campus of EMU. The middle school writer's camp is scheduled for Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11. The high school writer's camp is scheduled for Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18. The camp runs Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The cost of the camp is $225.
