College Student Scholarships

If you are currently in college and would like to explore Army ROTC, there are several scholarship options available such as two-, and three-year scholarships.

Army ROTC Scholarship Awards:

• Full Tuition or $5000 Per Semester (Room and Board)
• $600 Per Semester for Books

Monthly Stipend:

$420 per academic month

Requirements (Scholarship):

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be between the ages of 17 and 26
• Have a GPA of at least 2.50
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Meet physical standards
• Meet moral standards
• Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard)

Your Commitment

• Serve full time in the Army for four years and four years with the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).
• Selected Cadets may choose to serve part time in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career.

Enrollment Options

If you're interested in enrolling in Army ROTC and you are in college, you can start by taking an Army ROTC basic elective course. If you have at least two or more years remaining toward your undergraduate degree but not enough time to complete the Basic Course, you can enter the Army ROTC Advanced Course by completing the Basic Camp held at Fort Knox, Kentucky, during the summer

Talk to your campus Military Science department about other ways to join Army ROTC and incentives available, including opportunities to compete for two-, three-, or four-year scholarships.

The Green to Gold Active Duty Option Program is a two-year program which provides eligible, Active Duty enlisted Soldiers an opportunity to complete a baccalaureate degree or obtain a 2-Year Masters Degree and be commissioned as an Army officer upon receiving the appropriate degree.

Green to Gold Scholarship

• Scholarships are awarded for two, three, or four years.
• Soldiers with two years of college remaining to complete their degree are considered for two-year scholarships.
• Soldiers with three years of college remaining to complete their degree are considered for three-year scholarships.
• Soldiers without college credit who require four years to complete their degree are considered for four-year scholarships.

Benefits

Green to Gold Scholarship Option winners receive:

• Tuition or room and board support
• Additional money for textbooks, supplies, and equipment.
• A monthly stipend for up to 10 months each school year that increases each year based on your Military Science Class.
• Pay for attending the Advance Camp-Cadet Summer Training between the junior and senior years of college.
• If qualified, Montgomery G.I. Bill / Army College Fund (MGIB/ACF) benefits.
• The Professor of Military Science (PMS) at EMU can provide further information on what is available. 

In addition to the financial incentives, Soldiers receive additional benefits as ROTC Cadets. These benefits include:

• Leadership training
• Responsibility and Practical Experience
• Mentorship of the PMS/APMS
• Camaraderie  

Requirements

• U.S. Citizen (non-waiverable)
• Age – Be under 31 years of age on 31 December of the year you complete all requirements for a commission and a college baccalaureate degree. (Waiverable)
• Cannot have been convicted of a Domestic Violence Crime
• Have a minimum of 2 years Active Duty as well as 3 months of Active Duty for every one month of specialized training (waiver can be requested)
• GT score of 110 or greater
• Pass the APFT within the last 6 months with score of 180 or higher, minimum of 60 points in each event
• Be a High School Graduate or equivalent
• Cumulative High School or College GPA of 2.5
• Letter of Acceptance to School of Choice offering Army ROTC
• Letter of Acceptance from the PMS of that Army ROTC Battalion
• Favorable National Agency Check (or have initiated the action)
• DODMERB Medical Qualification
• Be eligible to Reenlist
• Not be a conscientious objector
• No more than 3 dependents including spouse (waiverable)

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) / Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship (GRFD)

SMP is a program where you serve in the Michigan Army National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve while you are enrolled in college. This path allows you to receive benefits of an actual soldier and cadet, while given great actually on the job training, with a non-deployable status. Upon receiving your bachelor’s degree, you will commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in either the Active Army, National Guard, or Army Reserve.

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship (GRFD)

Receiving this scholarship will guarantee that you get Reserve Forces such as the Michigan Army National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve. Taken this scholarship will also give you all the SMP Financial Benefits and you will still get the full benefits of the GRFD scholarship. Receivers of the GRFD scholarship will get to choose one of the following benefits:
