Biography

James joined the ATP program in the fall of 2007 as the program's Clinical Coordinator. Academically, Sweet is a graduate from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor degree of Exercise Science and a Master degree of Arts, specializing in Exercise Physiology. Sweet also holds a Graduate Certificate in Orthotics and Prosthetics from Eastern Michigan University.

Professionally, Sweet is a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer with a diverse background in Athletic Training and Orthotics and Prosthetics. He began his career with an out-reach high school and professional sport contract with K-Valley Orthopedics in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was then asked to work for Western Michigan University as an assistant athletic trainer for the athletics program. There he served as the athletic trainer of the Men's Ice Hockey and Women's Precision Skating teams, as well as assisting with the other athletic teams in the department. He was also the clinical coordinator for the undergraduate athletic training education program. He then began work with the University of Michigan MedSport where he served as Cast Room Team Leader. Most recently, he has completed a two-year residency in Orthotics and Prosthetics with Teter Orthotics and Prosthetics of Traverse City.

His academic agenda is the education of young athletic training professionals. His research goals are to incorporate multi-media techniques and clinical education. Other areas of interest are manual therapy and functional foot orthotics.
