For rising junior Cedrick Charles, Class of 2024, one opportunity has opened doors to many more here at Eastern Michigan University. The opportunity for education and success has been made possible from the gifts to endowed scholarships, like the one Cedrick Charles has received. “To all the donors, I am incredibly appreciative for all the support that has got me to Eastern Michigan University.”
Cedrick is an Economics and Political Science double major on the path to serving and giving back to the community.
“Funding scholarships for students gives opportunities for new career paths and aspirations,” said Cedrick. “College funding from donors has helped me more than I could imagine. I am surrounded by opportunities and passionate peers who have helped me solidify my choice of what I want to do in my career and life. Without donor support, I would not have had a successful college career.”
Cedrick is on the nationally recognized third-place EMU Forensics team and has also gained remarkable national success as an individual team member himself. He is a news editor for the Eastern Echo, an active member of the Black Honors Student Organization, and the Student Government Vice President for the 2022-2023 school year. The opportunities in his academic career, including his involvement in multiple student organizations, would not have been possible without the encouragement and kindness of the donors who help students like Cedrick.
Cedrick will continue to walk through the doors of new opportunities at EMU, as will many other students who receive donor support.
“Give Rise: The Campaign for Eastern Michigan University,” Cedrick said, “gives underrepresented students like me, who would not have the opportunity to achieve goals in their college career otherwise, a chance to do so. Giving scholarship funding means they don’t have to worry about the financial burden of college, so they can focus on the goals they set for themselves.”
