Kristin Young

Kristin Young“When you give back, you’re giving of yourself; there is nothing more rewarding.”

Kristin Young (BBA94) has always wanted to be a part of something bigger that gave back. The EMU alumna is a proud member of the GameAbove alumni group, and has had many opportunities to give back to the Eastern community.

“GameAbove isn’t just throwing money at students,” Kristin shared. “We’re taking the time to recognize the University’s needs.”

With GameAbove’s Students Matter Most initiative, the group is able to help provide safe spaces for students. Partnerships with Swoop’s Food Pantry, the Student Emergency Fund and graduates have been top priority during this time of need.

“We took a look at students graduating during the COVID-19 crisis,” Kristin explained. “How can we help them? How can we help incoming freshmen?”

For many students and graduates like Kristin, Eastern is the foundation for a successful career. As only one of five women graduating from the IT program her year, Kristin grew immensely through the relationships and experiences she had while at EMU. She was even able to get a job before she graduated!

“EMU provided me the platform to become successful,” Kristin said. “You build lasting relationships with the people there… some of us still get together to this day!

After wanting to get involved, Kristin was connected to GameAbove through her husband, Jordan Young. It was the perfect opportunity to do something rewarding together. Now, Kristin is heavily involved in STEM programming at EMU, especially Digital Divas.

“If someone is on the fence about if they should participate as an alumni, the answer 100% is go for it,” Kristin said. “Being a part of GameAbove is one of the most rewarding opportunities I’ve ever had.”
