Love Story: James and Maureen Budny

• Names: James Budny (1970) and Maureen Budny (1971 and 2002)
• Relationship Status: Married

How did you meet?  

We met in the library in 1968. Introduced by mutual friends.
Where was your first date? 

First place I took her was Nappy’s on Washtenaw back in the day.
Any cute memories you have together at Eastern?  

We dated through 1969. I graduated in June of 1970 and we married in July of 1970. Spent 1971 in married housing until Maureen graduated. We had many great times with our friends at Eastern. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and many of those friends were with us.
What are the two of you doing now?

We are both retired. I was just elected Supervisor of our Township for the next four years. We just enjoy our family and friends. We have four grandchildren. Three boys all who play hockey, so we’re going all the time.

Anything else you would like to share? 

Within the family we have four under graduate degrees and two master degrees from EMU. I also have my law degree from Detroit College if Law. We are an EMU family.
