  • Anniversary Date: July 30, 2004

Do you have children? How many?

Two

How did you meet?

Shawn was working for AmeriCorps at a local elementary school. He walked both ways to and from his job. I was doing some volunteer work at Adams as well. I’m sure it was the free ride that won him over, but we started dating shortly after that. He lived in Buell and I lived in Downing. We were later both RA’s together in the Towers.

Where was your first date?

He took me to the Matchbox 20 concert at the Convocation center, but prior to that he took me to the movies because I missed a night at the movies because I was helping him with a project for a class. I led him to believe that I knew exactly what I was doing.

Any cute memories you have together at Eastern? We had lots of great memories at EMU. I remember Shawn jumping in front of me when we were on duty together and I went head-to-head with a resident having a party in his room. I’ve never been afraid to stand up for what I believe in. Just a small party with 20 people in a Pitman room! Those were the days.

What are the two of you doing now?

We are both teachers in Utica Schools. Shawn is a Media Center Teacher and I am a special education teacher. We are both in our 16th years as teachers.

Anything else you would like to share?

Our children Lexie, 9, and Lucas, 6, enjoy hearing our college stories and look forward to EMU football games. They like to see where mom and dad met.
