Eastern Michigan University celebrates Women’s History Month with virtual events throughout March

In honor of Women’s History Month, Eastern Michigan University is offering a number of virtual open-to-the-public events that will help to celebrate and reflect upon women’s history.

Monday, March 8

5:30 - 7 p.m. The Global Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Women: Intersections of Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Work and Immigration

Thursday, March 11

5 - 6:30 p.m. Women’s Leadership Panel

Tuesday, March 16

1 - 5 p.m. The 4th Annual Women of Color Feminisms & Leadership Symposium, Day 1, “Reimagining, Rebuilding & Recreating Ourselves as Women of Color”

6:30 - 8 p.m. “Star Lecture 3: Making her Mark”

Wednesday, March 17

1 - 5 p.m. The 4th Annual Women of Color Feminisms & Leadership Symposium, Day 2, “Reimagining, Rebuilding & Recreating Ourselves as Women of Color”

Thursday, March 18

4 - 5:30 p.m. "Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All"

A Big Gift and a New Name

In recognition of a new $5 million gift in addition to $15 million contributed over the past 15 months by GameAbove, an Eastern Michigan University alumni group, the University is renaming its engineering and technology college to the GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology.

The EMU Board of Regents approved the renaming at its regular meeting on Thursday, February 18, 2021. The new name became effective March 1, 2021.

GameAbove is a team of passionate Eastern Michigan University alumni who desire to make a difference for all of EMU and the Ypsilanti community, and has made unprecedented contributions to support Eastern students and faculty. Learn more about this new naming here.

Eastern Michigan University Center for Jewish Studies to host Israeli/Palestinian singer songwriter, actress, artist, activist and content creator, Mira Awad, to perform and speak to attendees

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Eastern Michigan University Center for Jewish Studies will host Mira Awad, an Israeli/Palestinian singer songwriter, actress, artist and content creator, to perform and speak to attendees in a special virtual event. The event will take place on Sunday, March 7 at 3 p.m. via EMU’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Learn more about Awad and this event here.

All on-campus events, whether sponsored by the University or an outside organization, are canceled until further notice.
