Yasmeen Prince
Yasmeen Prince is currently a Social Worker at the Center for Urban Community Services in Manhattan, a national non-profit organization. In her role, she provides a full range of clinical services to tenants, assisting in program planning and development, implementing group services with particular emphasis on mental health, chemical dependency and services to people living with HIV or AIDS while helping them successfully live in the community.
Yasmeen is a Cleveland native and graduated with honors from Eastern in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She then attended New York University to receive her Master Degree in Social Work.
“I chose EMU because of their competitive academics, affordability, and reputation for caring for their students,” Yasmeen said. “I did not feel like a number at EMU, but rather like I was a part of a family. My professors were very knowledgeable, attentive and provided real life experiences.”
While she was at EMU she was a part of the Association of Black Social Work Students and the McNair Scholars program.
“Joining the McNair program was one of the best decisions I made during my academic career. The McNair program gave me the tools and skills to be an effective leader in my field of study and within my community,” Yasmeen shared. “My mentor Dr. Reaves guided me through a successful undergraduate and graduate career.”
Her biggest accomplishment was moving out on her own and successfully transitioning into the fast-paced New York life. She enjoys walks in Central Park, shopping in SoHo and attending Broadway plays during her free time.
When asked what message she has for current EMU students, Yasmeen said, “I know that students are often in a rush and want to graduate as soon as possible. I would tell [them] to slow down; appreciate this time now and take in life. Take this time to genuinely listen, learn and grow. Get involved in activities outside of the classroom, develop personal relationships and give back to your community.”
