    The Latino/a Faculty and Staff Association (LFSA) established a scholarship to assist Latinx students in their pursuits of academic excellence. For consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at the time of application and award
    • Minimum 2.5 cumulative EMU grade point average (GPA) required
    • Demonstrate active involvement in the Latinx and/or university community (address in résumé and/or personal statement)
    • Attendance at the annual César Chávez Celebration is required

  • EMU Latino Alumni Network Scholarship - $1,000 Expand dropdown
    In February of 1999, 14 EMU Latino Alumni gathered and established the EMU Latino Alumni Chapter/Network. As part of our mission statement “…provide support to ensure academic excellence,” this scholarship was established. To apply and be considered for the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
    1. Must be a graduate or undergraduate student, minimum 25 credits hours, at EMU
    2. Enrolled full time during the Winter 2019 semester. Enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for undergraduates and 8 credit hours for graduates.
    3. Must have an EMU cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
    4. Must submit a completed application by the deadline as stated below.
    5. Must submit a 500-word essay describing active involvement in the Latino community and/or University cultural activities.
    6. Must provide 1 to 3 letters of recommendation from faculty or community members describing community service.

Application Instructions

  • Submit required document(s) for each scholarship
  • Provide a well thought out typed personal statement advising the selection committee of your academic goals and objectives, involvement in the Latino/a community, and your financial need.
  • Confirmation of your cumulative grade point average (GPA) will be verified internally.

Selection

A committee will meet to review completed applications and select winners. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on overall quality of application, which may include academic standing, community and volunteer service, clarity of personal statement and résumé. Scholarship recipient(s) will be notified by March 15th. Scholarship awards may vary, depending upon the number of winners selected; minimum scholarship amount is $250.
