Thanks to a partnership with Spin, a leading micro-mobility service provider, battery-operated scooters powered by 100% renewable energy will soon be available across Eastern Michigan University's main campus. This new green transportation program advances EMU's long-standing commitment to sustainability. In 2021, Spin achieved carbon neutrality, making it the first micro-mobility company to reach that goal. The partnership advances both institutions’ shared sustainability goals.
Spin electric scooters are available for rental at marked corrals adjacent to existing bike racks on the EMU campus. Riders must be at least 18 years or older, have a valid driver's license, and download the Spin app for Apple or Android devices.
As part of EMU's commitment to being an inclusive campus, it is important that you position a scooter properly when you complete your ride. To ensure that our campus is accessible to everyone, including individuals with mobility, sight, or other navigation issues, do not leave the scooter in any location that interferes with building access, ramps, sidewalks, or doorways. If you see a scooter on campus that is blocking a ramp, sidewalk, doorway, etc., please call 1-888-249-9698 to request that the scooter be repositioned. If you see a scooter being driven in an unsafe manner, please call the Department of Public Safety at 734-487-1222.
