The Provost and Executive Vice President is Eastern Michigan University's chief academic officer. The Office of the Provost brings together key academic leadership and resources to promote excellence in teaching, research, professional achievement, creative activity and service. About the Provost
Provost Rhonda Longworth, Ph.D.
As provost and executive vice president, Rhonda Longworth leads Eastern Michigan University's Division of Academic and Student Affairs and its more than 200 degree programs in five colleges. She also oversees the function of information technology.
Provost Longworth’s assignments at Eastern over the years include: Women's Studies Director; Department Head, Political Science; Assistant Vice President (interim), Academic Affairs; Assistant Vice President (interim), Academic Human Resources and Divisional Budget; Director, Course and Program Development; and Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa, with a double major in political science and history. She earned her doctorate in political science, also from the University of Iowa. Her research and teaching interests have focused on the determinants of successful executive leadership, particularly in electoral and legislative arenas, and the politics of gender. She is the coauthor of the book "Framing Sarah Palin: Pit Bulls, Puritans and Politics" (Routledge 2013).
