April 2022 Commencement

We are pleased to announce that EMU will hold in-person commencement ceremonies on Saturday, April 30, 2022. This commencement will be for students who have been approved to graduate in April 2022.

Graduates from the College of Business, GameAbove College of Engineering & Technology, and the College of Health & Human Services will participate in the 9:30 a.m. ceremony. Graduates should arrive at 8:30 a.m.

Graduates from the College of Arts & Sciences, Individualized Studies, and the College of Education will participate in the 1:30 p.m. ceremony. Graduates should arrive at 12:30 p.m.

The ceremonies will be held at the George Gervin GameAbove Center, which is located 799. N. Hewitt, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to accommodate the demand for parking and potential traffic delays. Doors open one hour before each ceremony. Each commencement ceremony typically lasts about two hours.

Apply to Graduate

Visit your my.emich account, choose the “Student” tab, choose the “Student Records” link, and then click the “Apply to Graduate” link and complete the steps. You will be notified by the Office of Records and Registration when your application has been approved. This step must be done in order for a degree to be granted, regardless of whether you plan to participate in the ceremony. In order for your name to appear in the printed commencement program, you must Apply to Graduate by March 6, 2022.

Participation in the Ceremony

To participate in the April ceremonies, each graduate must be approved to graduate by Records and Registration, will be required to have a student ticket, and must wear approved EMU academic regalia.

Each graduate will also be eligible to receive four tickets for guests. No additional tickets for guests will be available.

The Commencement ceremonies will be streamed live on the day of the ceremonies.  A link to the live stream will be available on this website on the day of the event.

COVID Protocols for Graduates, Guests, and Participants

Masks must be worn at all times regardless of vaccine status. Masks must cover your nose and mouth. We strongly encourage families to leave some space between themselves and other families, if possible. All graduates must be compliant with current EMU COVID-19 protocols including vaccinations or weekly testing.

August 2022 Commencement

Commencement ceremonies will be held on August 13, 2022 for students who will complete their degree requirements during the summer of 2022. Students who graduated in April 2020, August 2020, December 2020, April 2021, and August 2021 will also be invited to participate in the August ceremonies. Additional information regarding the August Commencement will be posted at a later date.
