  • Names: Ian Green '08 and Sarah Green '08
  • Relationship Status: Married
  • Anniversary Date: June 28, 2013

Do you have children? How many?

Yes, two.

How did you meet?

We met in the Spring semester of 2007. We had the same Modern Lit class. We sat on opposite sides of the class from each other, but thankfully, the professor took role every class which provided Sarah with the necessary information to find Ian on Facebook.

Where was your first date?

On March 30, 2007, Ian invited me to join him and his friends for Burger Day. Burger Day was simply every Friday when we would head to a hole-in-the-wall bar for bacon cheeseburgers, fries, and drinks. I said sure. After enjoying good food and good company, we split up from the friends and headed to his place for a night of movies and talking. It was perfect!

Any cute memories you have together at Eastern?

Quite a few. Enjoying lunch in the Student Center, studying outside of Big Bob's Lakehouse, stealing kisses in the library, and looking forward to passing each other on the way to class. In the evenings, we enjoyed time together eating out, heading to PUB 13 to play darts, and spending time with friends.

If married/engaged, how did they propose? If it was on campus, where?

It was a very casual affair. Neither of us needed a marriage certificate to prove or validate their love for one another. By the time the engagement happened we had a 14 month old little boy, and we had been living in our house for nearly a year. On a rough day in April, I came home from work feeling terribly stressed out. After a venting session with tears, Ian embraced me in a hug and simply said, "It's time to get you a ring." That was it, and it was perfect.

What are the two of you doing now?

We've been living in Tennessee since July of 2008. We live in our home of three years with our two little boys, two cats, and a dog. Ian is in his third year working for the Knoxville Police Department, and I am in my seventh year as an English teacher for West High School in Knoxville.

Years attended Eastern:

Sarah: 2004-2008 BA in English, Language, and Literature for Secondary Education. Minor in Psychology.
Ian: 2004-2008 BA in History with a minor in English.

Any romantic advice you would give to students:

Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The person you fall in love with may be completely different from what you ever expected. No one's opinion matters but your own, and if you're happy, go for it!
