Captain Phil Guerra is a full-time Aviation Lecturer at EMU and has been on the EMU Faculty Staff since the 2021 Fall Semester.
Retired from Spirit Airlines in late March of 2022 due to the “Age 65 Rule”, Captain Guerra was last based at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. His professional flying includes routes throughout the contiguous 48 United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, South America, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. Besides Spirit Airlines, Phil has also flown passengers for Allegiant Airlines and Champion Air. He has flown aircraft carrying civilian passengers, military/government personnel, a variety of freight material, racehorses, and even “Maple”, a female Beluga Whale. Captain Guerra has held positions as a Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI), Turbo-Jet Flight Engineer, First Officer, Captain, Company Check Airman, and B-727 Full Flight Simulator (FFS-Level D) Instructor. Notable aircraft he has flown in his career include CV-340, -580, -5800, B727-200, DC-9 Series, MD-80, B757-200, A-319, -320, -321.
In addition to the required training provided through the airlines he has served, Captain Guerra has trained at the prestigious NATCO (Northwest Airlines Training Corporation) Facility in Minneapolis, MN, and the United Airlines Flight Training Center in Denver, CO.
