Students pursuing a degree in the Aviation program have opportunities to participate in a variety of student organizations and professional chapters. This provides career and networking avenues leading to success in their careers.

Leveraging learning in the classroom and connections made during involvement in student organizations, aviation students go on to achieve amazing success following graduation.

Placement of Graduate Students

Based on previous alumini survey, graduates from EMU'S Aviation program have worked for Delta Airline, Clarivate Analytics, U.S. Navy, and Waterford aviation as First Officer, Client Analyst, and Naval Aviator.

Scholarships

  • Newberry Expendable Scholarship Fund

    The applicant must: 1. Be a 2nd year or later student; 2. Be registered for at least 12 semester hours; 3. Carry at least a 2.5 grade point average; and 4. Write a single page essay explaining why you deserve the award. If selected, you must agree to attend a Chapter 55 monthly meeting to explain how you intend to use the award to prepare for your career. You will also receive a free one-year membership to EAA Chapter 55. Recipients will be selected by a committee to include representative(s) from EAA Chapter 55 and Eastern Michigan University Aviation program/College of Technology. Former Criteria: The applicant must: 1. be a 2nd year or later student 2. be registered for at least 12 hours 3. carry at least a 2.5 grade point average 4. write a single page essay explaining why you deserve the award. If selected, you must agree to attend a Chapter 55 monthly meeting to explain how you intend to use the award to prepare for your career. You will also receive a free one-year membership to EAA Chapter 55.
  • Susan & Janet Tkachik Expendable Scholarship

    To be used to establish expendable scholarships in the Aviation Flight Technology program in the College of Technology, to be awarded for Fall and Winter. This scholarship recipient may not receive more than 2 awards from the Tkachik Scholarship. Award Criteria: 1) Students must have declared major in Aviation Flight Technology Program 2) Students must submit goal statement and Letter of Recommendation 3) Students must have a 2.75 academic record from a community college or University in Michigan 4) Preference given to full time students 5) Must be actively enrolled in Eastern Michigan University 6) Preference given to students with financial needs. The Susan & Janet Tkachik Expendable Scholarship will be funded with annual contributions from the Tkachik Sisters Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan. The intent of this scholarship is to provide as many $2,000 awards as possible during each academic year based upon the amount of the annual fund distributions. Any excess funds not awarded during the academic Fall and Winter will be retained in the fund to be combined with future annual fund distributions to once again provide as many $2,000 awards as possible during the next academic year. This cycle will continue in perpetuity or for as long as annual distributions are made to the Eastern Michigan University Foundation in support of the Susan & Janet Tkachik Expendable Scholarship.
  • Lt. Col. Charles S. Kettles Scholarship

    Criteria: The Lt. Col. Charles S. Kettles Scholarship shall be awarded to an undergraduate student meeting the following criteria: 1) GPA should be a 3.0 minimum 2) Student must be a Junior or Senior 3) Majoring in either Aviation Management Technology or Aviation Flight Technology
  • Hans E. Harris Flight

    The Hans E. Harris Flight Scholarship is in memory of Han Harris, a native of Lansing, Michigan who pursued a career in flight after attending the Army and while raising four young children with his wife, Carole R. Harris. Students who receive this scholarship will be ones show fortitude in their belief of flying. Students of any class level with a minimum 2.0 GPA will be eligible if they show a determination to fly despite obstacles they might have in life.  Preference will be given to students who are underserved and/or underrepresented in the Aviation industry. Financial need will also be considered for this scholarship.
