Block Party for Community + Collaboration 2024

Group writing on a shared mural

On July 20th The Workshop for Community+Collaboration hosted a Block Party with the goal of further strengthening university-community-agency relationships and foster truth, collectively dream about community, and learn about community resources. Notably, this event served as an opportunity for The Workshop's community partners to invite potential new parters who work in the community.

This event had programming and activites for both adult and children attendees, including an activity for community members to meet one another, an out loud reading of Tar Beach by Faith Ringold, group mural making, expressing appreciation and thanks to one another, a showcase of joy, and dinner catered by FedUp Ministries

Outdoor activities

Outdoor activities for children attendees included bubbles, chalk murals, and kickball.

Read Aloud

A group reading of Tar Beach by Faith Ringold, we learned about spaces where we can escape and dream.

Taps Activity

In the Taps acitvity attendees silently acknowledged others who made a difference to them by "tapping" on their shoulder.

Connecting with Community

A core goal of this event was for connection amongst existing members of The Workshop as well as with potential partners.
