Scholarships and Aid
The Department of Computer Science is pleased to offer a number of scholarships and awards to hardworking students each year. The monetary awards typically range between $250 - $400. 2022-2023 scholarships and awards are now open for applications! Please submit your application: here. The deadline is March 31, 2023, and all student recipients of awards will be notified, via email, by April 10th.
Undergraduate Student Awards:
Outstanding Senior Award: This is a monetary award given to an upper-level non-graduating senior (100 or more credits) student with high academic achievement. The department head determines the amount of the award on a yearly basis.
Finlin Award
The Finlin Award is a monetary scholarship award given to a senior year student made solely on academic merit. The department head determines the amount of the award on a yearly basis. This award is made without regard to financial need. The student must:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.5;
- Be a non-teaching Computer Science major;
- Have demonstrated academic achievement in the field of Computer Science; and
- Maintain at least 9 credits per semester.
The Charlie Jones Memorial Scholarship
This is a monetary award.
- Applicants are asked to submit a 500-word essay answering: How have you demonstrated experience with, or commitment to, serving or working with historically under-represented or underprivileged populations?
- Declared major in Computer Science (curriculum, applied major, or secondary education in computer science)
- Completed at least two 200-level or above courses in computer science at Eastern Michigan University.
- Must show continued commitment to taking computer science courses towards his or her major while maintaining at least 9 credit hours or more per semester at Eastern Michigan University for the past two major semesters.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Minimum computer science GPA of 3.0
- Include a Recommendation Letter from an EMU faculty member who will provide comment to further your essay and your achievement of the designated criteria.
Dr. Mildred Lintner Student Scholarship Award
This award is a monetary scholarship based on student performance in a 100-level COSC course. The department head determines the amount of the award on a yearly basis.
Department Service Award
This award is a monetary scholarship award given to a student for service rendered for the Computer Science department or to the field of computer science. The department head determines the amount of the award on a yearly basis.
Graduate Student Awards:
Outstanding Graduate Award(s): This is a monetary award given to a graduate student with high academic achievement. The department head determines the amount of the award on a yearly basis.
