Steinway Campaign
At Eastern Michigan University, it's not just about the music. We care about the artistry, the vitality of the performing arts and the people who teach and perform.
As part of the Steinway Campaign, we plan to replace 84 pianos in our inventory of over 110 instruments with Steinway pianos.
What We Need

- Pease Auditorium
- Legacy Theatre
- University House
- Dance studio
- Student Center (completed)
- Steinway grand pianos for instruction:
- Orchestra room
- Choir room
- Organ recital hall
- Music and dance teaching studios (eight) - bought one
- Piano major practice rooms (five) - bought one
- Steinway upright pianos for instruction and practice:
- Music and dance teaching studios (29)
- Music/theatre/dance classrooms (10)
- Practice rooms (25) - bought three
Faculty Steinway Artists
Dr. Joel Schoenhals was named a Steinway Artist in September 2007 and emeritus faculty member Dr. Garik Pedersen was named a Steinway Artist in October 2008 at Steinway Hall in New York City.
