    EMU Students: $75 | Staff/Faculty/Community: $90

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA) is a non-invasive scan that uses X-rays to measure bone mineral density and body composition. It is considered the 'gold standard' and provides the most accurate and reliable results possible. This full body scan takes about 10 minutes to perform and provides information such as:

    • Total Body Fat Percentage
    • Android and Gynoid Fat Percentage
    • Lean Body Mass, Fat Mass, and Fat-Free Mass in lbs.
    • Visceral Adipose Tissue and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue metrics
    • Bone Mineral Density, including T- and Z-scores
    • Detailed breakdown of the regions of the body

Results are printed and discussed within the 30-minute appointment time.

To ensure the most accurate test, we recommend wearing loose-fitting athletic wear or gym clothes. Please remove all personal items and metal before your exam including:

      • jewelry
      • accessories (belts, watches, hair clips/pins)
      • clothing with buttons, zippers, bra hooks and underwires
      • compression wear and tight elastic waistbands
      • bulky or heavy clothing such as sweatshirts, baggy jeans, or sweaters
      • shoes will be removed prior to sitting on the scanner bed.

To maintain privacy and professionalism, clients must wear attire that ensures modesty during their full session. We do not provide gowns.

The day of your scan we encourage you to:

    • Eat and drink normally, stopping two hours prior
    • Avoid taking calcium supplements within 24 hours of the scan
    • Avoid moderate to heavy exercise the morning of your exam

Clients wishing to use this service must weigh less than 350 lbs, cannot be pregnant, and have had no nuclear imaging tests for five days prior to their appointment.
