I enrolled as a part-time graduate student in Eastern Michigan University’s MSIS program in 2011 and graduated in April 2015. I was one of the nontraditional students, passionate about earning a graduate degree while raising children and working as a small business owner. My bachelor’s degree was a 3-year program in Computer Science from a university in Pakistan, and I did two additional undergrad semesters at another university in Texas. The bridge program at Eastern Michigan then provided me with the opportunity to enroll in a graduate program that allowed me to explore and fulfill my passion for pursuing higher education.

I liked EMU’s MSIS program for several reasons. The curriculum helped me with career advancement – going from Programmer to a Program Manager. After working almost a year in a term position, I was rehired as a Program Manager for Strategic Projects in Library IT at the University of Michigan. The EMU College of Business’ qualified and friendly faculty was indeed a big facilitator in my success. They were always open to accommodating part-time students and helping us find pathways to advance our professional life.

I am currently enrolled in my second graduate degree in Education Management and Organizations at U-M’s School of Education. I will always be grateful to Eastern Michigan University’s faculty and staff for supporting me in earning my first graduate degree which I will always consider the foundation of my U.S. education.
